Aim: Use of self-sampling devices for detection of HPV
Partners: DDL, Novosanis nv
Preliminary results from the EVAH study were presented via a poster at the IPV Conference, September 2015, Lisbon. Final results were presented via an E-poster at ECCMID, April 2016, Amsterdam. A manuscript is currently being prepared by Annemiek Leeman (DDL).
91 women with an abnormal PAP-smear result collected first-void urine on the morning of colposcopy (U1) and later that day (U2). A physician-taken cervix smear (PTS), a brush-based self-sample (SS) and at least one cervical biopsy were collected during colposcopy. Samples were analyzed with SPF10 and GP5+/6+.
Main results included:
- All CIN3 (n=6) were hrHPV positive in PTS, SS, U1 and U2
- CIN2+ detection using HPV testing in first-void urine seems feasible, with sensitivity similar to the sensitivity of physician-taken smears and brush-based self-samples, independent on analytical method
- There is no advantage in testing morning first-void urine over first-void from later during the day
