Aim: Evaluate the performance and acceptability of first-void urine as specimen for the detection of HPV DNA in a Belgian referral population.
Partners: University of Antwerp, VAXINFECTO (Belgium), Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic University of Antwerp (Belgium), University Hospital Antwerp (Belgium), Centre for Statistics, I-Biostat MIPRO, PPES, LMM.
Results: First-void urine sampling is a highly preferred, non-invasive method that ensures good agreement between HPV DNA (copies) and reference cervical samples with kappa values from 0.66 to 0.69. In addition, there is a significant positive correlation observed at the genotype level between paired samples for the three most carcinogenic HPV types (HPV16, 18, and 31), as well as for HPV53 and 68.
