Human papillomavirus detection in urine: Effect of a first-void urine collection device and timing of collection
You are here
Pattyn et al., 2019
Aim: To investigate the potential effect of the Colli-Pee® device on the detection of HPV DNA and to assess whether the concentration of urinary HPV DNA varies between first-void urine collected in the morning and that collected later during the day.
Affiliations: University Hospital Antwerp (UZA), University of Antwerp, Novosanis NV
Summary: This study demonstrated that first-void urine is a reliable sample type for HPV DNA testing when using an appropriate preservative and DNA extraction method in combination with a PCR-based HPV test. Furthermore, Pattyn et. al. showed that HPV DNA concentration were similar between first-void urine collected in the morning and that collected later during the day.
Additionally, the following posters report the interim results that led to the publication:
1. HPV DNA detection in urine: effect of a first-void urine collection device and timing of collection
Vorsters et al, International Papillomavirus Conference Lisbon, 2015 (Poster)
Aim: Evaluate the use of a prototype first-void (FV) urine collection device Colli-Pee® and to assess the effect of time of collection on detection of human and HPV DNA in women.
Affiliations: University of Antwerp, VAXINFECTIO, Product Development (Belgium)
Results: With an appropriate preservative and DNA extraction method a reliable and reproducible urine sample for HPV DNA testing, independent of whether a FV urine sample is taken at the start of the day or later in the day can be captured.
2. HPV DNA detection in urine: effect of a first-void urine collection device and timing of collection
Pattyn et al, International Papillomavirus Conference Cape Town, 2017 (Poster)
Aim: Investigate the effect of a first-void self-collection urine device to detect HPV DNA and to assess if the concentration of HPV DNA varies between urine collected in the morning versus later in the day.
Affiliations: University of Antwerp, VAXINFECTO (Belgium), University Hospital Antwerp (Belgium)
Results: With an appropriate preservative and DNA extraction method , FV urine is a reliable and reproducible sample for HPV DNA testing, independent of whether the FV urine is taken from the first urine of the day or from urine provided later in the day.
