Aim: Measurement of skin thickness to characterize required needle length for intradermal vaccination using VAX-ID™
Partners: University of Antwerp (Pharmaceutical Sciences), Novosanis nv
- 100 healthy adults included aged 18 to 65
- Measurement of skin thickness at the deltoid region, the dorsal (PDF) and ventral side (PVF) of the proximal forearm
- Determining the influence of personal characteristics, such as gender; BMI, age, on skin thickness
Conclusion: Significant differences in skin thickness were seen for the PVF, PDF and deltoid region for gender, and BMI. Age only influenced the skin thickness at deltoid region. A needle length of 1.0mm is best option for intradermal injection at the dorsal forearm.
