Nearly all cervical cancers are caused by a persistent cervical infection with a high risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

The global strategy set by WHO aims to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer through improved uptake of vaccination and screening as well as timely treatment. These measures could lead to a world without cervical cancer.
